New volume record for MPET
19 March 2024 - On Sunday, March 17, 2024, MPET had the privilege of welcoming one of the world's largest container ships, the MSC China. This arrival set a new record for MPET: a call size (number of handled containers) of a staggering 26,201 TEU. "If we were to line up all the handled containers end to end, we would reach from the MPET terminal to Dunkirk," says MPET CEO Johan Van Daele.
The MSC China, which made its maiden voyage on October 19, 2023, has a total length of 399.99 meters and a deck spanning an area equivalent to four standard football fields.
The MSC China will remain docked at MPET until Friday. With a record call size of 26,201 TEU (discharge of 15,629 TEU and loading of 10,572 TEU), MPET has surpassed the previous volume record (December 2021, the MSC Allegra, 24,497 TEU) by a significant margin.
Johan Van Daele, CEO of MPET, commented, "I am proud that we at MPET have received the MSC China. I want to express my sincere appreciation to all our dedicated colleagues who contributed to the smooth and efficient handling of this extraordinary vessel. On to our next record!"
From Antwerp, the MSC China will sail to Rotterdam and then to Felixstowe.
