360° Views and Behind-the-Scenes Tours: PSA Belgium Showcases Terminals at the Flemish Port Day
12 May 2023 | PSA Belgium recently took part in the sixth edition of the Flemish Port Day, organised by the Flemish government and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. Held on 7 May, the event drew more than 85,000 enthusiastic visitors from all ages, with numerous activities organised for participants in the Flemish ports of Antwerp, Zeebrugge, Ostend and Ghent under a collective theme of “Innovation”.
As an important gateway for global trade, it was an excellent opportunity for PSA Belgium to showcase our terminals and the various types of jobs and careers available.
During the event, PSA Belgium welcomed close to 3,000 guests at three of its terminals. At the Port of Antwerp, people could visit the Europa Terminal on the right bank of the river Scheldt, as well as the MSC PSA European Terminal (MPET) – PSA’s joint venture with Terminal Investment Limited – on its left bank.
At the Europa Terminal, visitors got the chance to get a special bird’s eye view of the ongoing upgrading works and envision what the terminal will look like as a port of the future – throughout the day, a crane hoisted groups of up to 24 people as high as 60 meters up in the air, where they could observe the progress and take in the breath-taking view of the port and the city. In total, some 700 visitors took part in this activity. PSA representatives on the ground also shared more with the visitors about our planned upgrade with the help of visual illustrations and vivid renderings of upgraded Europa terminal when completed.
PSA and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges recently began the first stage of its refurbishment, which includes deepening and relocating the quay wall, and significantly upgrading the yard. When the works are completed in 2032, the Europa Terminal will have an increased capacity and will be able to handle the largest container vessels in the world whilst simultaneously reducing its carbon footprint.
Over at MPET, the largest container terminal in the Port of Antwerp, guests were welcomed at a temporary container village constructed for the event, and could also get a panoramic view of bustling terminal, with more than 100 straddle carriers and the large quay cranes loading and unloading the massive container ships.
At the event’s central hub where busses departed to various venues, PSA Belgium hosted an information booth to share information about various roles and career opportunities at PSA. Visitors could also interact with several touch screen televisions and tablet computers to take an immersive 360-degree virtual tour of the Port of Antwerp.
At the PSA Zeebrugge terminal, our enthusiastic colleagues welcomed guests through informative tours of the terminal. Visitors could watch large ConRo vessels (hybrid vessels between a RORO ship and a container ship) being loaded and unloaded from the quay and could visit its breakbulk warehouse. At the various terminals, PSA staff also organised activities where children could frolic and expand their imagination – from setting up a bouncy castle play area to face paint and origami stations.
