MPET sets new record with the handling of container vessel Maersk Evora
21 August 2019 | On 19 August, the ms MAERS EVORA called the MSC PSA European Terminal. Within a few days, 8,429 containers, or 13,405 TEU, were handled on this ship alone, which is an absolute volume record for MPET and for the Port of Antwerp in general. Never before in Antwerp, have so many containers been handled on a single vessel during a single visit.
The ms MAERSK EVORA, 366m long and 48m wide, entered the port of Antwerp in the early morning of 19 August with a 15.3m draft. The ship came alongside heavily loaded, with containers stacked up to 10 high on deck. During its port stay, 6 to 7 gangs worked non-stop, 24/7, to get the ship ready on time.
As the containers were stacked 10-high, above deck, MPET deployed its largest quay cranes. These cranes are 50 metres high, have an outreach of 25 containers wide and are among the largest in the world.
